A group of ‘elders’ inclusing people like Desmond Tutu have initiated a campaign to get people to personally sign the Declaration of Human Rights (until now it is countries who have signed up).

Personally I think to formulate things in terms of human rights is a mistake, I prefer to speak of interests and duties. This is because speaking of rights and duties makes it clearer who is meant to do what. Rights leave it unclear what I am meant to do. I think they are also not much use in trying to reconcile different people’s rights.

However I urge you to visit the site and sign up. I think it is a worthwhile initiative.
