Monique Louise Hill has a wide ranging website called the-wounded-healer.com or THESECRETrecovery.

The purpose of the site is:
“for those who are looking for recovery from SHAME, Addictions, Sexual Abuse, No self-esteem or an inability to set Boundaries. This site has Information and Support you can use.”

This is a very wide ranging site. From the relatively mainstream dealing with addiction (tobacco, alcohol, gambling) and AA to things such as Chiron Healing. Monique also deals with success, money, spirituality and consciousness. Monique’s site covers this remarkable range of things from what I would call a ‘New Age-ish’ type perspective. By this I mean that Monique seems to have collected what she has found to work, and not tried to come up with a ‘grand theory’ to tie it all together. This can be refreshingly pragmatic and non-dogmatic, if you are someone who cares about what works, or infuriating, if you are someone who values theoretical rigour and tidiness. If you are seeking an academically oriented site where perspectives are argued and evidence is interrogated then this site is probably not for you. If you wish a site that will be a good place to start for some things that have worked for others and perhaps to find links, then this is a site worth checking out.

Monique is also open to contributions from others and further links are given on her links page http://www.wounded-healer-support.com/wounded-healer-support-links.html for most of the topics covered.. If the purpose of the site sounds like what you are looking for then there is a great wealth of material to explore there.

Lee Wilson has two directories worth checking out.

A Healthy Idea is a new web site directory covering a wide range of health issues. It covers many topics – from the straight western medical model to more ‘alternative health’ modalities such as acupuncture, massage and organic food. Some of the categories are without listings as yet, the directory is quite new. As it gains more listings it will be a wide ranging and quite comprehensive resource. I think it is worth bookmarking and checking up on periodically if you are looking for a place to start when looking for health information. You can also submit a link if you would like to list your site.

The second of Lee’s directories is a directory of chiropractors called simply chirodirectory.com http://www.chirodirectory.com/

This directory is searchable by city, name, country or zip code, or you can browse by state or city – so if you are looking for a chiropractor there are lots of ways to find one that is convenient for you. Chiropracty is a modality I haven’t experienced, but from those who have I have only heard good things. So far the directory only takes in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico, but the listings for these countries are very extensive. If you are looking for a chiropractor in North America then you will probably be able to find one close to you.

Finally I’d like to alert you to some blogs by Trisha. Trisha authors three blogs.
The one with most content, so far as I can see is Ideas for Women. This is a blog giving, “Tips and guides about career, finance, health, family and travel for improving the lives of women”. There are also pages with resources on: home and family, health and fitness, travel and leisure, money and finance, and career and growth. Trisha also has links to further resources on these topics.

Trisha writes clearly and accessibly – her posts are nice to read. It is also refreshing that her horizon extends beyond the West – she has posted about Africa for instance. She also does a round up of what she has found in the blogosphere on Fridays which makes for a good resource.

Trisha writes two other blogs – one called Butterfly Gardening Blog and one which is about her journey developing her other blogs called Just Another Homo Sapiens Living on this Pale Blue Dot. This last blog is quite new and Trisha is still finding her way with it. With her analytical skills and good reading it looks set to become a blog about blogging that will be well worth reading.

Thanks for this list of blog sites – especially Monique’s dealing with addictions.

I have an interest in addiction, not having gone through it myself but having a family member who is still struggling with an addiction. I see the strength it takes to battle these demons every day and while sometimes I get so frustrated that this person got into this stuff to begin with, I admire them for realizing the problem was out of their control and they began to ask for help. To help me understand more of what this person was going through I looked into books on addiction and found one that really seemed to call out to me. It’s called “Alive” by Eileen DeClemente, and it’s a documented account of her personal struggles with alcohol and drug addiction. She actually have alcohol-induced dementia now and had to go through her journals (she started keeping journals when she first went into rehab in 1988) to remember a lot of the events. It’s a “bare bones” account of addiction which took her around 20 years to write and there are parts that shook me to the core. It did make me a lot more understanding of what is going on close to me and it’s meant that I’m able to offer my family member some positive help and support instead of looking at the negative and selfish aspects too often.
