I think there should be a collective noun for posts (a ‘swag of posts’ perhaps) but I don’t know what it is if there is one, so I’ve had to settle for “collection”.
It’s been quite a long time since I’ve done a round-up of posts like this. These are spread over time and and not on any particular topic. They are just posts that I have found to be excellent.
First up is a process to guide you through working with a frustrating situation or person. It is often easier to start with a person you find annoying or have trouble responding to. It is from a blog written by the followers of Ken Wilber. I think Ken Wilber is truly brilliant and his four quadrant approach to human experience is absolutely remarkable (simple and insightful). (My problem with Ken is that he does have followers.)
The process moves from the third person (describe the situation or person) to the second person (address the person or problem directly) and then speak as this person or situation (first person). So, it is called the 3-2-1 Shadow process. It is a simple process but extremely powerful (please don’t use it to address a major issue without the support you need).
John at Storied Mind (a blog I find consistently good and that I link to often) has a great post on creativity and healing. It is called Writing, Creativity and Healing-2. It is about more than writing though. It is about the detachment that comes from the creative state, and how this can be used to heal (for instance in Carl Jung’s active imagination). It also raises the question the place of creativity in human fulfilment. It is a great post – simply written, personal and very thought provoking.
There is a great post by Mary Jaksch on her Goodlife Zen blog. It is the Top Ten Ways to Establish New Habits Without Discipline. My problem with discipline is that it is usually ‘self-punishment’ and splits us into someone disciplined and someone who does the disciplining. So it is great to see someone not using discipline to get to a desired outcome. Her way instead of discipline is to use positive rituals. She offers ten tips to change a habit by using positive rituals. Clear, useful and practical. Very worth reading, especially if you want a way to change a habit that doesn’t involve all that discipline, motivation and the inevitable dealing with relapses that the discipline approach leads to.
A good post on the experience of being seriously depressed by One Sick Mother called Invisible Disabilities: Depression. If you think that depression is just a case of the blues you need to read this post. It is a glimpse of what serious depression can be like.
These are all great posts, all worth reading. If they are on a topic important to you at the moment, they could even be life changing. Let me know in the comments if you find any especially valuable or life-changing for you.
