A Blog For Abuse Survivors (and others too)
Dealing with abuse, and the issues around it, is always difficult. Difficult to deal with the emotions and difficult to assist people to heal. So I am pleased to see a blog that deals with this that I can recommend. It is Soul-Expressions-Abuse-Recovery.
This is a very personal blog. Becky, the author, tells her story of her healing without dwelling on the abuse. Her focus is on the healing. Her healing involved her discovery of art therapy and her religious experience - a christian conversion. This may turn some people off who don’t want to embrace a religious path. So, it is important to say that the story of her conversion is told as part of the author’s personal story. It is not put forward as the way of recovery nor is the blog ‘preaching’.
The blog also has a number of pages that offer resources on a range of issues. Such things as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), eating issues and sexual issues. There are also pages on more general topics such as nature and spirituality. And there are pages about the kind of therapy that the author used to heal and that she uses to help others heal - art therapy and healing the inner child. There is also a place where, if you are an abuse survivor, you are invited to tell your own story.
I think this is a very valuable blog, I’m glad it exists, and can recommend it. Sometimes readers who aren’t convinced christians may find some of it a little off putting. But this is a small thing compared with its overall value. It is an excellent thing that Soul-Expressions-Abuse-Recovery is in the world.
